If I'm not the one with the problem. How will this help?
Family members, partners and friends often present for help first and while this is usually on behalf of someone with a drinking or drug problem, their own need for support and assistance is just as important. Recognising a problem exists and wanting to do something about it are two essential stages for beginning positive change. Holyoake's unique family approach acknowledges the significant role played by everyone involved and the principle that any family member can affect the other as an "agent of change".

What can I expect from the Groups?
Holyoake Family Drug and Alcohol Groups provide a combination of education and support in a safe, non-judgemental atmosphere. A professional facilitator presents information on specific issues relating to family and friends of the drinker/drug user and leads group discussions in a structure and focussed way.
Holyoake Groups provide an opportunity to talk honestly about what is going on for you while learning new coping skills and strategies to deal effectively with the substance user and other family members involved.
The Groups utilise a variety of educational resources including DVDs from Holyoake Perth and Powerpoint Presentations to provide topic information. You will also receive information hand outs and worksheets to take home to supplement your learning.
All information sharing in the group is strictly confidential and voluntary and it’s O.K. to just come along and listen.
