The Queensland Illicit Drug Initiative Program (QIDDI) is a statewide court diversion program, offering assessment and early intervention strategies for first time offenders aged 12 and over. QIDDI gives people apprehended for possession of small amounts of cannabis, the option to attend counselling for their substance issues and avoid incurring a fine or conviction. This provides them with an incentive to work with their drug issues, minimising the risk of repeat offences and an established criminal record. After an initial assessment, offenders can attend up to six therapy sessions to assist in dealing with substance and associated issues. QIDDI receives funding by Queensland Health and the Commonwealth National Illicit Drug Strategy and is managed by ADFQ in the following areas: Beenleigh, Bowen, Bundaberg, Caboolture, Capalaba, Charters Towers, Childers, Dalby, Ingham, Logan, Mt Isa, Redcliffe, Toowoomba, Townsville and Warwick. QIDDI aims to reduce the number of people convicted for possession of illicit drugs and lower the possibility of a future generation of drug users and drug-related crimes. QIDDI clients are referred to ADFQ through the Courts and the Police only. To download the Police diversion or Courts diversion brochure. |
